From a “Black Hole” to Looking Back with Pride

Jen: Before we recorded, was there anything about this period of your life that you hadn’t thought about in a long time?
Pascal: My childhood, yes :)
Jen: Was there a moment during our conversation where you heard yourself saying something and thought about your own story differently?
Pascal: I can’t remember anything in particular.
Jen: We kept coming back to whether staying in Brazil was persistence, consistency or stubbornness. After the conversation, which word do you think describes it best?
Pascal: Persistence is actually the right word!
Jen: What was it like talking about the period when you had sent 1,000 CVs, your savings were disappearing and your visa was running out, knowing now how differently everything turned out?
Pascal: Now I can proudly talk about how I successfully came out of that black hole. That’s a good feeling.
Jen: Was there anything you said during the interview that surprised you, or that you didn’t realise you felt so strongly about until you said it out loud?
Pascal: I can’t remember anything in particular.
Jen: After recording, did you find yourself thinking about any of the paths you didn’t take, particularly what your life might look like if you had returned to Europe?
Pascal: I never spent a second thinking about this :)
Jen: You said there was “no second” where you doubted you would succeed. Hearing yourself tell the whole story from beginning to end, do you still see that confidence the same way?
Pascal: Yes, I still do, because I knew I had a strong mind and was ambitious. As I said, maybe it would have happened in another way, but I would have made it somehow, even if that meant having a totally different job or trying to build something new.
Jen: Is there anything about your Ticking Junction that you understand now, after having this conversation, that you don’t think you understood before we sat down to record?
Pascal: Hmm, I’m generally a very conscious person and had already had these insights before.
